Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn – A Review. [SPOILERS].

What Em's Reading (4)

Hello guys and welcome to my blog! In case you didn’t guess from the title today I’m going to review Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Overall rating – 4 out of 5 stars.

I want to start by saying that I saw the film before I read the book, so part of the pull of the book was spoilt for me before I even got down to reading it. That being said, I was still shocked AF!!!! when it turned out that Amy literally faked her own disappearance – I did warn about spoilers lmao.

The story itself is incredible if not a little bit far fetched at points, but the marriage between a narcissist and a sociopath – what could go wrong?! It was easy to envision the characters (though this may have been because I’d seen the film) and the way neither of the characters ever seem to give the whole truth in their section of the book keeps you on edge, wanting to find out more.

Even though I knew the twist was coming, Gillian Flynn’s writing never once gave it away, whilst all the while weaving and laying the foundations for what I feel is one of the biggggggest twists I’ve read for a while!

I do feel that my thoughts on Gone Girl are slightly skewed by the film but for me it was a really good read and I’m definitely adding it to my re-read list. Perhaps reading it so long after I saw the film will help me get a better feel for the book.

Have you read Gone Girl? Let me know what you thought in the comments. Em xx
