Hey everyone welcome back to my blog! Today I’m finally sharing my 10 mini reviews of the Goosebumps Horror Land series. They will literally be 2 or 3 line reviews but I’m going to include a star rating of each of them.
REVENGE OF THE LIVING DUMMY – 5 stars. I love Slappy, he’s one of my favourite Goosebumps characters that R. L. Stine has ever written, I think his insults are hilarious. I also enjoyed the creepy items that Molly’s Dad had in the attic, they sounded pretty cool.
CREEP FROM THE DEEP – 5 stars. I loved this story, it had so many different aspects to it and I loved the twist with the two “men” who Sheena and Billy come across that they think are going to help them.
MONSTER BLOOD FOR BREAKFAST – 4 stars. I did enjoy this one, but the theme and story just didn’t thrill me the same way the others did. I think it’s because there wasn’t a clear villain, it was just some goo!
THE SCREAM OF THE HAUNTED MASK – 5 stars. I remember watching this episode when I was younger and it scared the LIFE out me… It’s nice to know that the book has the same effect, I was terrified. I love this one!
DR MANIC V. BOBBY SCHWARTZ – 3 stars. I know not all of them will be amazing but I really felt this one was too complicated compared to the others, there were too many things going on for me to really enjoy it.
WHO’S YOUR MUMMY? – 5 stars. I love anything with an Egyptian theme, so I thought this was ace. It had so much packed into the story, and the bit when the cat turned to dust makes me howl!
MY FRIENDS CALL ME MONSTER – 5 stars. I hadn’t read this one before so it was completely new to me and I thought it was amazing. I think the best bit for me was the whole out of this world aspect, it added another dimension to it.
SAY CHEESE AND DIE SCREAMING – 5 stars. This is my ALL time favourite Goosebumps book, it’s the best one in my opinion. I know it’s aimed at young children but I really get a Final Destination vibe of trying to cheat death haha.
WELCOME TO CAMP SLITHER – 4 stars. I did enjoy this book, and I loved the ending so much, I thought it was inspired. But, I hate snakes so I had to mark it down because it scared the life outta me!
HELP WE HAVE STRANGE POWERS – 4 stars. I’m not a huge fan of fortune tellers, so instantly I was put off slightly by this one, however, I did NOT see the ending coming and that’s what bumped this up for me.
On the whole, I just love the Goosebumps series, I think the way the children in the books are the same sort of ages as the books are aimed at is excellent. Despite them being quite short books R. L. Stine makes every chapter feel like a cliff hanger, it’s brilliant.
I had SO MUCH FUN reading these and I think they really re-ignited my love for reading, I was in a bit of a slump before.
