Hey everyone it’s that time of the week again where we take part in Top Ten Tuesdsay! TTT is currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and is a weekly post born out of a love of books and a want to bring us bookish people together, and it’s GREAT for those of us that love a list (me).
Today’s topic is one that I have been SO looking forward to! It’s my Top Ten opening lines, eeeeek!
1 – “The writer, having lost his way in a gloomy forest, and being hindered by certain wild beasts from ascending a mountain, is met by Virgil, who promises to show him the punishments of Hell, and afterwards of Purgatory; and that he shall then be conducted by Beatrice into Paradise” from The Divine Comedy by Dante.
2 – “Jack Torrance thought: Officious little Prick” from The Shining by Stephen King.
3 – “Renowned curator Jacques Sauniere staggered through the vaulted archway of the museum’s Grand Gallery” from The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.
4 – “When I think of my wife, I always think of her head” from Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.
5 – “I’d never given much thought to how I would die – though I’d had reason enough in the last few months – but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this” from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
6 – “In Wakefield Manor, a decaying ancestral mansion brooding on the edge of the Great Dismal Swamp in Virginia, there is a locked room” from It Will just Be Us by Jo Kaplan.
7 – “It was the silence I noticed first” from The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler.
8 – “Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much” from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling.
9 – “The disembodied head dangled from the overhanging branch, staring at Joyce Park with one glass eye” from The Doll by JC Martin.
10 – “Look I didn’t want to be a halfblood” from Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
Some of these opening lines fill me with anticipation of what is to come from some of my favourite novels and books of all time… Others, they simply remind me of bloody good books that I love to pieces!
Let me know if you’re taking part in Top Ten Tuesday as I would love to check out your favourite opening lines too.
