I’m really in two minds about this one, I rated every aspect of it 3 out of 5 as I finished it just feeling confused, the blurb didn’t really give much away and TBH is nothing like the actual book itself.
From the start I found it hard to keep track of the characters, who in themselves were incredibly unlikeable and spoiled. However, the chopping and changing of character POV and the spoiled nature of them did lend itself well to the story, it encouraged them to be paranoid of each other and showed us the story from several perspectives.
I also found that the writing was anything extraordinary, it was just standard. It didn’t really thrill me or scare me or fill me with enjoyment, it just was.
It was the same with the plot, it really lacked that POW and shock value, especially the levels that I had expected from the blurb. The story did cover what it said in the blurb but at the same time it felt as if the blurb was alluding to something else that wasn’t capitalised on in the book, which was highly disappointing.
The author did manage to build the intrigue in the first half of the story and I found myself on the edge of my seat and desperate to keep reading, but this waned towards the second half and it was more a case of I’ve got this far so I’ll finish…
I just felt like this book was average, it wasn’t anything particularly special but on the flip side, it wasn’t terrible. It just exists, in that little intbetween space.
