📚I Dare You book tag📚

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog! I’m super excited to do this tag so I won’t waste time introducing it…

1 – What book has been on your shelves the longest? A – This is still The Green Mile by Stephen King, someone literally is going to have to force me to read this book!

2 – What is your current read, last book you read and next book you will read? So my current read is His & Hers by Alice Feeney, my last read is Cinderella is Evil and my next read will be an undecided Christmas themed one (I have some left over from last year and I really want a feel good romance🙈)

3 – What book did everyone like that you hated? A – I probably can’t say this as I’ve not read it the entire way through but IT by Stephen King, I just cannot get stuck into it no matter what I do, I’m not saying I hate it but yeah I strongly dislike it…

4 – What book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read but probably won’t? A – 100% The Green Mile, it has been on my shelf FOREVER.

5 – Which book are you saving for retirement? A – I’m only 25 I have definitely not planned that far ahead!

6 – Last page: do you read it first or wait for the end? A – I wait for the end, I don’t want to spoil it.

7 – Acknowledgements: are they a waste of paper and ink? A – I love a good acknowledgement, especially with larger authors that have a lot of published books when they thank their wife or husband or whoever it makes my heart feel happy❤️

8 – Which book character would you switch places with? A – Hermione Granger, yes she had to save Harry like all of the time but could you imagine being a witch and attending Hogwarts?!

9 – Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life? A – Not really, I used to use books to get away from real life when I was younger so I’ve blocked out some of those memories.

10 – Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way? A – Oohhh! I have a collection of ghost story books that are coming up 90 years old which came from some distant relative who’s house we helped clear out when they died, they were in their loft for ages and we found them so I was allowed to have them.

And I have a copy of Macbeth that we found in our own loft at home, we have no idea who it belonged to and none of my family recognise the handwriting in the front of the book…

11 – Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person? A – I’m probably really harsh but I don’t give books away to people, they only go to the charity shop if I hated them haha.

12 – Which book has been with you to the most places? A – That would be The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas.

13 – Used or brand new? A – Either, before lockdown I would regularly hunt in charity shops for used books, I’m not fussy.

14 – Have you ever read a Dan Brown book? A – Yes all of them! I love Dan Brown.

15 – A book that made you hungry? A – Probably Harry Potter, whenever I used to read about the feasts they had at Hogwarts my mouth would WATER.

16 – Most read author? A – Stephen King, easily.

I feel like you can learn a lot about people from book tags so I hope I’ve done this one justice, I never want to write loads for each answer as it can become quite long!

As always if you want to play along consider yourself tagged.

📚The “Guilty Reader” Book Tag📚

Hey guys! I’m sharing my answers to the guilty reader book tag, I wasn’t tagged in this and I found it on Pinterest but if you want to take part, consider yourself tagged.

Q – Have you ever re-gifted a book that you’ve been gifted?

A – If giving it to the charity shop counts as gifted then yes! I did try to read it first but I just couldn’t get into it, so I freed up some space on my shelves.

Q – Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

A – Nope, I’m quite open about books I haven’t read, I just end up adding them to my TBR list or my to be purchased list.

Q – Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

A – Technically yes, but my Mom lent me the book and we live together so it just moved rooms and stayed in my room instead haha.

Q – Have you ever read a series out of order?

A – Yes and no. Ages ago I read Red Dragon, but none of the others. So in 2019 I read the whole series in chronological order. Starting with Hannibal Rising and making my way through the rest. You can actually read the reviews here.

Q – Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

A – I hope not! I do try and keep my reviews spoiler free but I always mark them as spoilers if they do have any.

Q – Have you ever dog eared a book?

A – Yes but I’m getting better now I’m older and will literally use anything as a bookmark to prevent me from doing this.

Q – Have you ever told someone you don’t own the books when you do?

A – Only a couple of times, when I really didn’t want to give that particular person the book because I knew I would never see it again.

Q – Have you ever skipped a chapter or section of a book?

A – Definitely, if I’m really hating on a book I’ll skim read it to see if it gets any better.

Q – Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

A – Nope, I’m an open book when it comes to my book-ish opinions.

Q – Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

A – Again, I’m open about everything I’ve read (even 50 Shades, it was shit btw) and I share every book I’ve read either on my blog or Goodreads, so you only have to search me to see what I’ve been reading.

Wow, I’m actually not as guilty of a reader as I thought I would be! And if you want to take part in this one consider yourself tagged!

📚My Life In Books Tag📚

Hello I’m here again with a book tag, this time it’s my life in book tags! I do have a middle name but I don’t have a book beginning with J so I just haven’t included it on the first question🙈

Q – Find a book for each of your initials.

A – Well my initials are E W so we have… End of Watch by Stephen King and The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. Stretching it a bit there but I wanted to do these with books from my own shelf!

Q – Count your age along your bookshelf, which book is it?

A – The 25th book on my shelf is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C S Lewis.

Q – Pick a book set in your country. (That’s England).

A – A Wedding in Cornwall by Laura Briggs.

Q – Pick a book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to.

A – Inferno by Dan Brown.

Q – Pick a book that is your favourite colour.

A – My fave colour is actually pink and I don’t have any books of that colour 😦 if you have any pink books hit me up with your recs!

Q – Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

A – It’s a choice between a few childhood books really, Matilda and the Goosebumps series, they both remind me so much of my childhood.

Q – Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

A – IT by Stephen King, I have tried 3 times now to read this book and I just cannot get into it.

Q – Which book on your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

A – At the moment it would be The Green Mile by Stephen King, simply because I have had this book on my shelf for years, and I still haven’t gotten around to reading it.

Well there we have the end of this book tag, my favourite part was definitely searching through my bookshelf for the books with my initials and counting my age!

📚The Bookshelf Tag📚

Hey guys, I found this tag ages ago and it’s been sitting in my saved folder ever since so I’ve finally gotten around to doing it! This one is The Bookshelf Tag.

1 – Describe your bookshelf and where you got it from. So my bookcase is an Ikea Billy Bookcase, I have had it for several years now and it was originally birch, but I brought new black furniture so I got some paint and it now matches the rest! Though I will be purchasing a new (bigger) one soon as I simply do not have room for any more books 😦

Live footage of me putting together my bookcase.

2 – How do you organise your books? I did a post on this ages ago, but it’s actually changed now and TBH it’s a bit of free for all as I’ve got no room but I’m hoping to organise it better once I get a new bookcase.

3 – What’s the longest book on your shelf? That would be IT by Stephen King, coming in at 1,138 pages!

4 – What’s the shortest book on your shelf? This one is Psycho by Robert Bloch coming in at 185 pages.

5 – Is there a book you received as a birthday gift? I had The Green Mile by Stephen King and Carrie by Stephen King for my birthday, which were several years ago and then this year I received like 10 new books *happy dance*

6 – Is there a book from a friend on your shelf? There is from my boyfriend, but from a friend I don’t think there is, they avoid buying me books because I already have so many haha.

7 – The most expensive book on your shelf? Probably my illustrated Harry Potter books.

8 – The last book you read on your shelf? This would be The Haunted by Niki Valentine. My review will be going up shortly.

9 – Do you have a complete series? I do indeed, I have several… The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, The Chronicles of Narnia by C S Lewis, Harry Potter by JKR and the Hannibal series by Thomas Harris.

10 – What’s the newest edition to your shelf? Erm, that is a very good question, it’s actually 10 books that were all added at once as they were received at the same time!

11 – The oldest book on your shelf? So I have a copy of The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins back from 1982. But the one that was written the longest time ago would be The Divine Comedy by Dante.

12 – What’s a book you’d hate to let out of your sight? (AKA no one is allowed to touch it). Definitely my illustrated Harry Potter books, they’re literally my pride and joy haha.

13 – Most beat up book? My Hannibal series, they used to belong to my Mom so they have been read a lot.

14 – Most pristine book? It’s a choice between my Mistborn series or The Complete Cthulhu Mythos Tales, they are literally perfect!

15 – A book that doesn’t belong to you? All of the books on my shelf are mine!

16 – A book that is your favourite colour? My favourite colour is actually pink and I don’t have any pink books on my shelf 😦

17 – A book that’s been on your shelf the longest and you still haven’t read it? Definitely The Green Mile by Stephen King, it’s been on there for several years now.

18 – Of all the books on your shelf, which was the first you read? Out of the books on my shelf it would likely be The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

I say this about every tag I take part in but this was literally so much fun, I loved going through my bookshelf and sharing the answers with you guys. If you want to take part please consider yourself tagged!

📚The Book Snob Tag📚

Hey everyone I’m taking part in the Book Snob Tag today, I got this from Flowers In The Brain and you can see this tag in action right here!

ADAPTATION SNOB – Do you always read the book before you see the movie? A – I make an effort to, I feel like films are so different to the books (for many reasons) and I always prefer to let my imagination run wild with a book before I see it on screen.

FORMAT SNOB – You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which do you choose: physical books, ebooks or audio books? A – I would pick ebooks, simply because I find it so much easier to just grab my Kindle and go, it’s practically weightless.

SHIP SNOB – Would you date or marry a non-reader? A – Yes! Not everyone is the same and it’s healthy to have different interests.

GENRE SNOB – You have to ditch one genre never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which do you ditch? A – This is really hard, I don’t really hate a certain genre, I just enjoy less books from that particular one! I will say sci-fi.

UBER GENRE SNOB – You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose? A – Horror/thriller. EASY.

COMMUNITY SNOB – Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community? A – I don’t really think any of them receive that much snobbery… If I have to pick I would say romance novels, there seems to be some unreachable bar set for romance books!

SNOBBERY RECIPIENT – Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general? A – I haven’t, everyone has been super nice so far and is so friendly.

As always if you want to play along please consider yourself tagged, but make sure to tag back to Flowers In The Brain!

📚The “I should have read that” Book Tag📚

cropped-what-ems-reading-1-4.png

Hey guys, and welcome to a book tag on What Em’s Reading! I found this particular one on Pinterest and I was SO excited to do it, so here we goooo…

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read. One of my friends had been pestering me for AGES to read The Woman in Black, mainly because she had read it and got totally freaked out so wanted to see if I had the same reaction :)))

A book that has been on your TBR forever and you still haven’t picked it up. Okay, I feel attacked by this question! Definitely The Green Mile by Stephen King, it’s like an OG book that has been on my list since I started this blog.

A book in a series you’ve started by haven’t got round to finishing yet. I don’t really have any of these at the moment, I’m reading a lot of standalone books.

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of but never read. Most of them??? I’m so bad at reading classics, I’m always really keen but then I end up picking up something else!

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read. The Fault in our Stars, I’ve never read this and I don’t think I want to either, but when it first came out the world and it’s mother had read it…

A book that inspired a film/tv adaptation that you really loved but just haven’t read yet. Dr Sleep by Stephen King, I think I skim read this about 10 years ago so I need to properly read it.

A book you see all over Instagram but still haven’t read. I don’t use Instagram for books, I find it quite a toxic place to be so I just tootle along at my own pace and read what I wanna read!

Ahhh this tag was so much fun to do, I’m so glad I found it on Pinterest! Let me know what your answers might be in the comments.

📚Reader Problems Book Tag📚

cropped-what-ems-reading-1-4.png

Hey guys and welcome to my blog! Today I’ve decided to take part in the reader problems book tag, I saw this AGES ago and thought what better time to type it up and keep it in my drafts for months!

Anyway, here we go, with the reader problems book tag…

Q – You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

A – I will literally just pick one off the shelf and go “you are the chosen one”. I don’t really have a set way I pick books, I do try and read ARC ones first but if we’re just talking books on my shelf then I’ll just grab one.

Image result for i choose you gif

Q – You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

A – I quit. I literally cannot be bothered spending my time reading books I don’t enjoy!

Q – The end of the year is coming and you are so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

A – I’ve never actually participated in the Goodreads challenge so I can’t comment🙈 Although I am doing it this year, so maybe I’ll come back and answer this depending on how I get on!

Q – The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope?

A – I’ve never had this issue, and I can’t imagine I ever will I will go out of my way to make sure they all match.

Image result for OCD GIF

Q – Everyone and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?

A – Probably someone on here! Guaranteed someone else will hate the book as much as me or on Twitter, there are usually a few people who agree on a dislike of a popular book.

Q –  You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

A – I will likely put the book away! If it’s my Kindle I’ll just go to another book and quickly read something else, or if it’s a proper book I’ll bookmark it and come back to it in the peace of my home.

Q – A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from a prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!

A – If I really loved the book and was impatiently waiting for the sequel I would not have forgotten what the book was about! That being said, if this ever did happen I would probably just find a summary or head to Goodreads for a refresher.

Q – You do not want ANYONE borrowing your books. How do you politely tell them nope when they ask?

A – I would just tell them that I was reading it or that I didn’t have a physical copy, it was only an e-book copy, which isn’t as easy to share around everyone. Either that or I would protectively hold my book and mumble no over and over again…

Q – You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your slump?

I just let myself get over it, whether that be not reading for a few days or re-reading something like Harry Potter!

Q – There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read. How many do you actually buy?

I would try and limit myself to just a couple, else I’d start feeling overwhelmed and like I had too many. I’d eventually buy them all, but, not all at once haha.

Q – After you’ve brought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do they sit on your shelf before you read them?

A – It depends, I’m such a mood reader, so I will just pick them up whenever I feel like, I’ve just brought loads of books from the charity shop but I’m reading one that I fancied off the shelf.

Ahhh, this tag was such fun! It made me really think about the answers I was giving, probably took me far longer than it should have done or maybe that was finding matching gifs to go with some of the questions!

I’m not doing the proper tagging but if you want to take part consider yourself tagged.

📚Reading Habits Book Tag📚

cropped-what-ems-reading-1-4.png

Welcome back to my blog and another book tag that I’ve been meaning to do for ages, this one was one of my faves to do, as I think it really gives you an insight into the person behind the blog!

  1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading? Not really, I tend to read anywhere in the house that it’s quiet.
  2. Bookmark or random piece of paper? I want to say bookmark but it’s usually whatever I can get my hands on at the time.
  3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages? I have to reach like the end of the chapter or a natural lull in the book else I’ll keep reading haha.
  4. Do you eat or drink whilst reading? I’ll have a drink usually by me but it depends if I’m using my Kindle or reading an actual book.
  5. Multitasking, TV or music whilst reading? I can read with background noise etc but I can’t concentrate on both.
  6. One book at a time or several at once? I used to have like 3 or 4 books at a time on the go but since I started blogging I only read 1 book at a time so I can keep on top of it and make sure I’m not getting confused when I write a review.
  7. Reading at home or everywhere? Everywhere.
  8. Reading aloud or silently in your head? In my head!
  9. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new? Where possible I try and keep my books like new.
  10. Do you write in your books? NO!! Well, my textbooks yes, but in light pencil so it can be erased lol.
  11. What book form do you prefer, book, audiobook or ebook? Ebook, I just find it easier to carry my Kindle with me.

Let me know what your answers would be to some of these, I would love to know and compare, especially about the book form!

📚The Finished Book Tag📚

cropped-what-ems-reading-1-1.png

Hey folks and welcome back to my blog! Today I’ve decided to share this book tag that I found AGES ago and kept meaning to do, but what better time than now?! It’s the finished book tag and ironically, until about 10 mins ago when I made the final edits it had “to be finished” at the end!

HERE WE GOOOO!

  1. Do you keep a list of the books you’ve read? Yes, since 2020 I have FINALLY started to use Goodreads properly and keep a track of everything on there. Plus I have a TBR list on my blog that I keep updated, though that’s behind the scenes.
  2. If you record statistics, which ones do you record? I don’t actually at the moment, maybe next year!
  3. Do you give star ratings for books and if so, what do you score books out of and how do you come about this score? Yes I do, and I rate out of 5 stars.
  4. Do you review books? What else do you think this blog is for?!
  5. Where do you put your finished books? So, on my bookshelf, they just go back onto the relevant shelf, in alphabetical order. And if I’ve read it on my Kindle it goes into my “read” folder.
  6. Do you have any other rituals for when you’ve finished reading? I’ll sit for a few moments and digest the book and then I’ll quickly pop on my blog and type out a few notes for when I come to review it at a later date.

So there we go, just a short one today but I certainly had fun answering it. Let me know what you thought in the comments!

📚The F.R.I.E.N.D.S book tag📚

cropped-what-ems-reading-1-4.png

Hey guys and welcome to my version of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. book tag! This tag was originally created by An Average Life blog and I was very excited when I found it and had to take part straight away…

Image result for monica geller gif

MONICA… A book based on a game or competition. Erm, this is really hard, does The Hunger Games count?!

Organisation QUEEN! How do you organise your books? This actually varies on a monthly basis, so at the moment they’re organised by what I need to read, a lot of books at the moment are on my Kindle so I have a shelf dedicated purely to physical books I have to read.

Image result for rachel green gif

RACHEL – A book you read for the hype. Most of them? I think the main one that I read to see what the hype was about was Fifty Shades of Grey – safe to say I did not get the hype AT ALL.

SHOPPING ADDICT – What makes you buy a book? The author, the cover, the title, if someone has recommended it, it smells nice? The list goes on…

Image result for phoebe buffay gif

PHOEBE – A book with a spiritual or supernatural theme. I read quite a lot of books themed this way, so a recent one that I read and reviewed was Talk To Me or The Woman in Black.

THE BOYCOTT – Are there any authors, booksellers or publishers you refuse to support? I really should be more up to date with things like this and make an effort to avoid people whose morals I don’t agree with but at the moment, no.

Image result for ross geller gif

ROSS – A science fiction book. I’m not really sci-fi fan 😦

ON A BREAK – Which book have you put down to pick up later? IT by Stephen King, a lot LOT later…

Image result for chandler bing gif

CHANDLER – A book that made you laugh out loud. I laugh at various parts of books, but I think the last one I had a good chuckle at would be One Week Till Christmas.

THAT TIME AT SPACE MOUNTAIN – Are there any books you’re embarrassed to admit you read? Not really, I’m quite open about what I’ve read!

Image result for joey tribbiani gif

JOEY – A scary book you would keep in the freezer. The Shining, it shouldn’t be scary, but something about it just really creeps me out.

V IS FOR ENCYCLOPEDIA – As an adult have you read any books with words you had to look up to understand? Not words as such, but literally every single Dan Brown book I’m looking up some symbol or theory to read more about it!

OKAY, I’m undecided if I had more fun searching out the gifs for this post or actually answering the tag… Definitely searching the gifs. Friends is literally one of my favourite TV shows, ever, so when I saw this tag I was determined to get it written up on my blog!
