📚12 Days of Christmas Book Tag!📚

📚

Hi friends and happy December! I’m here again with another book tag, this time it’s a festive one! It’s the 12 days of Christmas tag and was created by Ashley at Falling Down the Book Hole.

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE

THE PARTRIDGE STOOD ALONE IN THE PEAR TREE? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STAND ALONE?

This is a tough one, as I actually read a lot of standalone books, they’re my preferred type. But, I would have to pick a recent read called Silent Pretty Things by O J Lovaz, it just really has stuck with me since I read it a few weeks back and instantly came to my mind.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES

LOVE IS IN THE AIR! WHO IS YOUR ONE TRUE PAIRING?

ANNABETH AND PERCY. I love them sm😭😭😭😭😭

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS

IN THE SPIRIT OF THREES, WHAT IS THE BEST TRILOGY YOU HAVE READ?

I’m not sure if this counts as a trilogy, because I think there are more books that relate directly to the world? But, I would have to say The Mistborn books.

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS

SINCE SERIES USUALLY CONSIST OF FOUR OR MORE BOOKS, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SERIES?

This is a really hard choice between the PJO series and the Goosebumps horrorland series, they both remind me of my childhood/teenage years, so it’s a hard choice!

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS

ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL! WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN/ANTAGONIST?

I hate to say this, but I’m really struggling to pick one for this!

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING

CREATION IS A BEAUTIFUL THING. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORLD/WORLD-BUILDING?

My favourite world has to be the Final Empire and the world of Scadrial from the Mistborn series. It was just so beautifully built up whilst I was reading the books, and is one that I regularly think about.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING

WHO NEEDS SEVEN SWANS WHEN ALL IT TAKES IS ONE GOOD ANIMAL SIDEKICK TO MAKE A HERO ROCK! WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL SIDEKICK?

Hedwig. She is my fave.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING

MILK IS SO 18TH CENTURY. WHICH BOOK OR SERIES TAKES BEVERAGES/FOOD TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL?

OOOOOH, this is a tough one! I don’t really read a lot of books that discuss food or drinks, so this one was hard but I’m going to settle on Love Amongst The Recipes by Carol Cram. While I didn’t actually enjoy this book, the food within it was worth reading it for!

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING

DANCING IS JUST ONE SKILL OF A LADY! WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE KICK-ASS FEMALE LEAD?

I’m going to have to pick Vin from the Mistborn series.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING

LEAPING LORDS? HOW ABOUT WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE LEADING LAD?

Favourite would have to be Percy Jackson, cliché and expected from me, I know, but no other character brings me quite as much joy as he does!

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING:

WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT MUSIC? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OR BOOKISH THING THAT DEALS WITH MUSIC? (IT CAN BE ABOUT MUSIC, REFERENCE MUSIC A LOT ETC.)

This one suddenly came to me while I was trying to think of books that included music! I’m going with Chopping Spree by Angela Sylvaine. It has loads of references to 80s music, so it was a HUGE hit with me.

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING

DRUM ROLL PLEASE
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE READ OF THIS YEAR?

Do I have to pick just one? That seems extremely unfair when I’m just finalising my list of 20 favourite reads of the year! Be sure to come back to my blog and check that list out when it goes live in the next couple of weeks.

As always, please consider yourself tagged if you want to take part! And thank you, for all of your continued love and support this year, I am grateful for every single person that likes, comments or otherwise interacts with my blog, it makes me realise everything I put into it is worthwhile.

Until next time, Em xxx

📚Meet the Book Blogger tag!📚

Hello fellow bookworms and bloggers! I thought today I would do a slightly different getting to know me kinda post, using the  Meet the Book Blogger Tag, which was created by Samantha and Amber, the Bibliomavens.

WHO IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE BOOK CHARACTER?

This is a really tough one as I am obsessed with soooo many characters. But, I’m going to be quite clichĂ© and say Annabeth Chase from the PJO series.

She’s one of the most badass characters EVER and I just love everything about her. I actually wanted her to be my BFF when I was younger (still do lmao).

IF YOU WERE STRANDED ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHICH BOOK WOULD YOU TAKE WITH YOU? (SURVIVAL BOOKS DO NOT COUNT).

Can I pick more than 1? I’m picking more than 1…

I would take IT by Stephen King, might finally get around to reading it when I have all the time in the world.

I would also take the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. It’s one of my favourite series and I can easily get lost and immerse myself into the world.

ALL of the Goosebumps books by R L Stine. Because ya know, I need to relive my childhood while I’m just laying there stranded.

WHAT’S YOUR MOST UNPOPULAR BOOK OPINION?

I have a very strong dislike for hardbacks. Whew, it felt therapeutic to say that out loud… I just find they don’t fit on my shelf as well and they’re never the same size and it just they bug me okay 😩

WHAT’S YOUR WEIRDEST BOOKISH HABIT?

Is talking to my books weird? Or does everyone do that?! If it’s not weird then I guess I don’t have one to put down for this!

WHAT CHARACTER WOULD YOU BRING TO A FAMILY EVENT AS A FAKE PARTNER?

I would love to bring Patch from Becca Fitzpatrick’s book series as my fake partner, especially since I’m obsessed with the fake dating trope…

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START A BOOK BLOG?

I love reading, and I love being able to share what I’m reading and what I thought about it. I did start out just reviewing on Goodreads but then I wanted to branch out into other bookish content and so I created my blog and here I am now!

WHAT ABOUT READING AND BOOKS DO YOU LOVE THE MOST?

Being able to get lost and immerse yourself into a whole different world. Books were my escape when I was younger, and while I don’t need that escape now it still brings me joy to step into another world when I’m reading.

WHAT IS YOUR FIELD OF STUDY/DESIRED PROFESSION/CURRENT PROFESSION?

I am currently a business administrator, but undertaking training with the AAT for a finance and accounting qualification. I’m being promoted soon so it’s all change!

WHAT ARE SOME BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS THAT BECAME YOUR FAVOURITES/OBSESSIONS?

Oh god, here’s where I have to admit that I haven’t read any of the books people have recommended to me yet (sorry peeps!)

WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT YOU SHOVE DOWN EVERYONE’S THROAT?

So, earlier this year it was The Pastel Effect by Arly Carmack, but then I moved onto The Neighbour by London Clarke and Ariadne, I Love You by J Ashley Smith. But my long term, OG loves are The Shining, Salem’s Lot and the entire Hannibal Lecter series.

And there you go! Something a little different than the standard get to know me posts!

As always, if you want to take part, please consider yourself tagged, and let me know if you do so I can make sure I hop on over to your blog and check it out 🙂

Until next time, Em xxx

📚Meme Book Tag!📚

Hi book peeps! It’s book tag day again and this time I’m taking part in the meme book tag! This one was created by booktuber Saajid of Books are My Social Life.

CRYING KIM KARDASHIAN: A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The first one that springs to mind is Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer. I sobbed while reading the dedications so there was no hope for me, let’s be honest…

SALT BAE: A BOOK THAT NEEDED A LITTLE SOMETHING MORE

Me and Mr Jones by Lucy Diamond. You can read my full review here, but my main issue was the epilogue, it would have been nice to just have that lil bit extra.

GUY THINKING: A BOOK THAT MADE YOU THINK

For this one, I’m going to pick She Kills Me by Jennifer Wright. It’s a non-fic book about female serial killers, and it definitely made me think about my knowledge base and then things that I wanted to research after I’d finished reading!

CONFUSED GUY: A BOOK WHOSE HYPE YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I’ve tried to read this multiple times, but I just never understood the hype around it when it first came out and I certainly don’t now I’m older.

EVIL PATRICK: A GUILTY PLEASURE READ (WHATEVER YOU CONSIDER GUILTY PLEASURE TO MEAN)

I don’t really have a guilty pleasure book, I’m quite open about what I read and enjoy.

MERYL STREEP: A BOOK THAT YOU’RE ALWAYS HYPING UP

I literally will hype up SOOOOO many books, it’s hard to pick just one. I think though this year, the one that’s made it onto a lot of lists is The Pastel Effect by Arly Carmack, it was so good.

SUCCESSFUL BABY: A BOOK (WHETHER YOU LIKED IT OR NOT) THAT YOU FELT ACCOMPLISHED AFTER READING

I really felt accomplished when I finished reading The Stranger by Albert Camus. I did enjoy it, but my god, it was a mind fuck and I felt so proud of myself for actually finishing it and having some understanding of what I’d just read haha.

PENNYWISE: A BOOK WITH A PROMISING CONCEPT/A BOOK THAT YOU HAD HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR BUT ULTIMATELY LET YOU DOWN

I’m going to go with IT by Stephen King for this one. I’ve never actually finished it because I had super high expectations but I felt really let down and underwhelmed when I started reading it.

HEADPHONES GUY: AN AUDIOBOOK THAT YOU ENJOYED

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to an audiobook so I’ve not got an answer for this one 😩

DISTRACTED GUY: TWO BOOKS: ONE YOU’VE BEEN NEGLECTING ON YOUR TBR FOR A LONG TIME AND A NEW ONE THAT’S DISTRACTING YOU/PIQUING YOUR INTEREST

Oh god, the one off my TBR is The Green Mile by Stephen King, it has to have been on there for like 7 or 8 years now! The newest one that’s catching my eye is Lore by Alexandra Bracken.

CASH ME OUTSIDE GIRL: A BOOK THAT TRIED TO BE SOMETHING THAT IT’S NOT (PRETENTIOUS, DIDN’T LIVE UP TO WHAT IT WAS MARKETED AS, ETC.)

The first one that springs to mind is The Haunted by Nicki Valentine, it was meant to be scary and atmospheric and full of creeps and chills and it fell SO FLAT.

DOG IN FIRE: HOW MANY UNREAD BOOKS DO YOU OWN?

Thanks to my handy TBR list I have easily calculated that I have 115 unread books that I own!

As always, if you want to take part consider yourself tagged!

Until next time, Em xxx

📚Unpopular bookish opinions tag!📚

Hello fellow bookworms and bloggers! Today is tag day! I found this baby over at Read at Midnight and decided to give it a go.

Let’s talk unpopular opinions.

1. A popular book you didn’t like.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I could not stand this book, in fact, I still can’t. It just gets on my nerves and I don’t find it an enjoyable read, which considering most of the population seemed to absolutely love it when it came out definitely puts me in the minority.

2. A book series that everyone hates but you love.

I’m not sure if others hate it or if they just don’t enjoy it as much as the stand alone books, but the Horror Land collection by R L Stine. I loved this series, and I actually re-read the whole series last year!

3. A love triangle where the MC ends up with the person you didn’t want them to end up with.

I’ve actually been pretty happy with every relationship that I’ve read lately, so, I don’t have an answer for this one I’m afraid 😩

4. A popular genre you rarely reach for.

Young adult. I rarely read YA books, although I am making an effort to include them more in my TBR.

5. A popular character you didn’t like.

Oh gosh, okay, here goes, please don’t kill me… Peeta Mellark. It’s not that I don’t like him, it’s just that I like him less and he just doesn’t fill me with as much joy to read about him as other characters. But, I do agree he should have ended up with Katniss over Gale.

6. A popular author you can’t seem to get into.

John Green, I think I read The Fault in Our Stars first and as you can see above I didn’t enjoy it so it kind of put me off his other books.

7. A popular trope you’re tired of seeing.

LOVE TRIANGLES. REMOVE THEM FROM MY BOOKS!!!! Yes the capitals were intentional, I need to voice my anger about how much I hate love triangles, they are pointless and I’m pretty sure they raise my blood pressure when I read them*

*Maybe a slight exaggeration lmaooooo

8. A popular series you have no interest in reading.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. This one is just not for me…

9. The saying goes “the book is always better than the movie” but what movie do you prefer to the book?

I actually prefer the Gone Girl movie to the book (maybe it has something to do with Ben Affleck playing Nick). I found because there was so much to absorb from this one that the movie was just an easier way to consume everything.

As always, if you want to take part consider yourself tagged! And be sure to let me know what you thought of my unpopular opinions.

Until next time, Em xxx

Halloween Song Book Tag!

Hey guys! As it’s October, which is basically Halloween month I’m sharing a Halloween book tag today!

I found it on the blog Adventures with a Side of Espresso, but it was created by booktuber A Beautiful Chaos of Books. She also created a playlist for the tag on Spotify based on the songs included in the tag.

Let us begin…

1 – THRILLER: A BOOK THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PAGE TURNER

The Woman In The Water by Kelly Heard. I absolutely loved this book, I couldn’t put it down and it had this eerie vibe that would be perfect for a Halloween read!

2 – SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME: A BOOK THAT GAVE YOU THE SERIOUS CREEPS

The Shining by Stephen King. I have read this book several times and every time it creeps me the fuck out. Honestly.

3 – VAMPIRE: A BOOK YOU HATED SO MUCH IT WAS SOUL SUCKING, I.E INCREDIBLY TEDIOUS TO GET THROUGH

A recent one I read was The Devil’s Staircase by Helen Fitzgerald, it was a real slog to read and I wish I had stuck with my earlier idea to DNFR it. Also, a special mention for a book called Unnatural which I did DNF, at around 22% but honestly, it felt like 202% through, it was a real drag.

4 – THIS IS HALLOWEEN: YOUR FAVOURITE TREAT/SNACK TO EAT WHILE READING

I try not to eat while I’m reading because I don’t want to get anything on my books or my kindle. but I do love a good biscuit or cookie while I’m reading, when I fancy a treat!

5 – TIME WARP: â€œLET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN.” WHAT BOOK OR BOOKS DO YOU LIKE TO RETURN TO AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?

Anything by Stephen King, I will re-read his books over and over again during Halloween. And any of the Goosebumps books, they’re perfect for reminding me of Halloween’s gone by!

6 – HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF: A BOOK YOU LOVED SO MUCH, YOU DEVOURED IT

I absolutely powered my way through Unethical by Marla L Anderson, honestly, it was SO GOOD that I couldn’t put it down. I loved it sooooo much.

7 – THE ADDAMS FAMILY: A BOOK FEATURING A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY

Do I need to look any further than the PJO series?!

8 – SCARY MONSTERS (AND SUPER CREEPS): A BOOK GENRE THAT YOU ARE SCARED OR INTIMIDATED TO PICK UP

I am absolutely terrified by fantasy books, I mean there are so many out there? And they’re all really long? And like 10 book series? With worlds entirely crafted by words? And they have maps in the books? There is just a lot to take in and they actually make me feel kind of anxious.

9 – TWILIGHT ZONE: A BOOK WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE PREMISE

Abra-Cadaver by Matt Drabble. I have never read anything like it before, and I don’t think I ever will again, it was an incredibly clever premise.

Let me know what you think of my answers and any that you would pick for the different song titles!

Until next time, Em xxx

ALL ABOUT HALLOWEEN BOOK TAG

Hey friends! A bonus book tag from me today instead of a book review… Specifically because it’s HALLOWEEN MONTH!!!!! and I wanted to be able to share this tag with you so I’ve swapped it out for a review, anyway, here we go.

I found the All About Halloween Book Tag over on Madame Writer, who credits CatFairy Books as the creator. But it seems that CatFairy Books has taken down their blog. I still wanted to give them credit though as this is a truly brilliant tag!

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE HALLOWEEN MOVIES?

I’m going to be sooooo unoriginal here and say Halloween 1978.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HALLOWEEN BOOK?

They aren’t specifically Halloween themed, but I love reading the Goosebumps series around Halloween, the sense of nostalgia they bring to me is second to none and they remind me of when I used to scare myself silly as a child watching them on TV with all the lights off.

WHAT OTHER HALLOWEEN BOOKS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

The Shining by Stephen King and Salem’s Lot by Stephen King. I know they aren’t set at Halloween but they’re both ones that are perfect for reading with the lights dimmed, fluffy blankets, a hot chocolate and lots of Halloween sweets.

DO YOU OWN ANY UGLY HALLOWEEN SWEATERS?

I actually don’tđŸ„ș but my mission for next year is to either buy one or ask my Nan to knit me one (I’m not saying my Nan knits ugly sweaters, but she defo would understand the assignment if that’s what I wanted!)

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES?

I love costumes that are based on scary characters or Halloween characters, so like people dressed as Jason or Freddy or Leatherface, oh and I love people who dress like Beetlejuice!!!!

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR HALLOWEEN THIS YEAR?

Now I live in the UK where Halloween isn’t as widely celebrated, but I will still be carving my pumpkin and waiting for any trick or treaters, all while watching horror films on repeat and then being too scared to drag my ass up to bed.

We also might be going to scarefest at Alton Towers for my birthday, but that’s a little bit earlier in October so.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD HALLOWEEN MEMORY?

We always put the pumpkins outside, to show that we were happy for trick or treaters to knock on our door, and my Mom would take me outside to the end of the path and I’d walk up to my own front door and knock and shout TRICK OR TREAT at my Dad and he would pretend to be shocked that I was out there and then I’d get to pick some sweets out of the bowl, it was so cute.

I also used to go trick or treating a lot around my local neighbourhood and with friends from school and their parents so that was cool too!

And a bonus for you all, I was actually about 8 years old when I watched Scream for the first time, it was one Halloween and me and my friend from primary school had snuck downstairs whilst the adults were watching it and I think that’s what ignited my love for horror films…

Anyway, let me know in the comments what you’re doing for Halloween this year and be sure to share with me your favourite scary movies!

Until next time, Em xxx

Would You Rather? Book Tag!

Hello fellow bloggers and bookworms! I’m back again with another book tag, this time it’s the would you rather? tag!

I’m not 100% sure where this originated from, I found this one on pinterest, so if you know who created it please let me know so I can give them the credit.

And without further talking from me, here are my answers!

WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE A FRIEND WHO LOSES YOUR BOOKS OR ONE WHO DOG-EARS THEM?

Dog ears them. I was guilty of doing this to my own books at one point or another, and at least you’d get the book back once they’d finished, better than not at all!

WOULD YOU RATHER SECRETLY LOVE A BOOK EVERYONE ELSE HATES OR SECRETLY HATE A BOOK EVERYONE ELSE LOVES?

Loads of people seem to love Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte but I just, oh god I hate it, I’m sorry but I do 😩

WOULD YOU RATHER BE STUCK ON A VERY LONG PLANE OR TRAIN RIDE WITHOUT A BOOK?

A train ride. I hate planes so I need something to distract me, like a good book.

WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE DINNER WITH YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR OR YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER?

Favourite character. I could pick from a looooooooong list of book boyfriends I’d love to have dinner with!

WOULD YOU RATHER DATE A CHARACTER YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON OR YOUR CRUSH FROM REAL LIFE?

Well I am dating my crush IRL (he’s my boyfriend of nearly 5 years) so I’d have to say him, love u P. (I hope you know what I’m giving up for you!)

WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TURNED INTO A MOVIE OR YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE TURNED INTO A BOOK?

Favourite book turned into a movie.

WOULD YOU RATHER READ A BOOK WITH AN ANNOYING CLIFFHANGER OR ONE WHERE YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IS KILLED OFF?

One where my fave is killed off. I realise that may be unpopular, but at least that way there wouldn’t be any cliff hangers and I could go about my life knowing the answer to the burning questions.

WOULD YOU RATHER LOSE THE ABILITY TO READ ANY NEW BOOKS OR THE ABILITY TO REREAD BOOKS YOU’VE ALREADY READ?

Easy. Lose the ability to re-read.

WOULD YOU RATHER LIVE IN A LIBRARY OR A BOOKSTORE?

The library, they usually have pretty comfy seats so I can at least snooze between picking my next book!

WOULD YOU RATHER LOSE YOUR PLACE OR GET A PAPER CUT EVERY TIME YOU READ A BOOK?

Lose my place. I’m such a wuss about papercuts and I’m pretty good at remembering where I was up to in a book. I usually finish the chapter so I can figure it out that way.

WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE TO ALWAYS READ IN THE DARK OR ALWAYS READ BOOKS WITH TINY TEXT?

I would prefer reading in the dark. I already have to wear glasses because I’m short sighted so I don’t want to make my eyesight any worse by reading small text!

WOULD YOU RATHER READ BY A FIREPLACE OR ON THE BEACH?

A fireplace. I love cosy evenings with a blanket and hot chocolates, so reading in front of the fireplace is perfect for me.

And there you have my would you rather answers! And if you want to take part, please consider yourself tagged.

Do any of your opinions match mine? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to know!

Until next time, Em xxx

The Bohemian Rhapsody Book Tag!

Hello fellow bookworms! I am ever so slightly Queen obsessed so when I saw this book tag on Pinterest I HAD TO DO IT IMMEDIATELY.

If you do know the OG creator please let me know as I would love to give credit to them!

“MAMA, JUST KILLED A MAN” – A FICTIONAL CHARACTER’S DEATH THAT REALLY UPSET YOU?

I can’t really remember any characters that really upset me when they died, I mean sure I probably felt a bit sad but nothing that really stuck with me. I guess I’m just cold hearted haha.

“CARRY ON, CARRY ON” – PICK A BOOK THAT WAS HARD TO KEEP READING BUT WAS WORTH IT IN THE END.

I struggled with Ariadne, I Love You by J Ashley Smith, not because it was a terrible book but because I kept having to put to one side and just take a breather. It was really good it was just very overwhelming (I think that’s the best word for it!)

“SENDS SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE” – PICK A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL SPINE/COVER.

I actually have one on my shelf at the moment which is The Good Girlfriend’s Guide to Getting Even by Anna Bell. It’s purple and has little confetti bits on it, it’s soooo cute!

“GOODBYE EVERYBODY, I’VE GOT TO GO” – A BOOK THAT YOU COULDN’T FINISH.

IT by Stephen King, I’ve tried two or three times to read this one now and I couldn’t finish it at any point.

“THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTNING, VERY, VERY FRIGHTENING” – WHICH BOOK DID YOU FIND VERY, VERY FRIGHTENING?

I don’t often get frightened by books but one that really stuck with me was The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

“BISMILLAH, NO! WE WILL NOT LET YOU GO” – WHICH BOOK/SERIES DO YOU WISH THERE HAD BEEN MORE OF?

I actually want more Twilight books, but them when they’re all vampires and how they just deal with daily life, like Charlie wanting to see his grandchild and Renesmee going to school etc!

“MAMMA MIA, MAMMA MIA” – WHICH BOOK/SERIES SHOULD BE MADE INTO A MUSICAL?

Could you IMAGINE Percy Jackson as a musical?!

THE HEAD BANGING BIT – WHICH BOOK MADE YOU FACE-PALM?

Sooooo many, too many to mention! But I think the most recent one was The Face At The Window by Ruby Speechley, it was just so WTAF that I had to face palm.

“OH BABY, CAN’T DO THIS TO ME, BABY” – PICK A MOMENT FROM A BOOK WHERE YOU FELT LIKE THE AUTHOR WAS BEING MEAN TO YOU?

It was in The Pastel Effect, I felt like the author was trying to rip my heart out and trample on it…

“NOTHING REALLY MATTERS TO ME” – WHICH CHARACTER(S) DID YOU NOT CARE ABOUT?

One that really sticks in my head, at the moment anyway! Is Parker from This Lie Will Kill You, man he was an asshole :)))))

I tag anyone who loves Queen, just give this tag a go. I had to go and listen to bohemian rhapsody after I finished this post!

Until next time, Em xxx

Another book tag!

Hello friends I’m here with another book tag which I actually can’t remember or find the official name of, I’m such a bad blogger honestly… But, this is one that has some absolute classic songs on it that I was super excited to take part in!

Today’s post is a tag courtesy of Jemma and Milly â€“ and it’s a nostalgic one. I used to be obsessed with some of these songs (read as still am obsessed with some of these songs lmao)

As always if you want to take part please consider yourself tagged.

What’s My Age Again? – blink 182
What age did you discover your love of reading?
Probably around 7 or 8, I used to love reading in school and around that age was when I started to pick my own books at the library (under my Mom’s watchful eyes!) and would really look forward to visiting the library.

All Star – Smash Mouth
What is your favourite genre?
Thriller, horror or psychological thriller. They are my absolute FAVE.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Deep Blue Something
What is your go to reading snack/drink (or just your favourite)
I don’t really eat or drink while I’m reading but if I am it’s usually a cup of tea and a squares rice krispie bar. They don’t make as much mess as biscuits!

Give It Away – Red Hot Chili Peppers
What book do you ALWAYS recommend to people
At the moment, this is The Pastel Effect by Arly Carmack or usually The Shining by Stephen King, or Red Dragon by Thomas Harris.

Baby One More Time – Britney Spears
A book or series you have read more than once
Harry Potter, Percy Jackson & The Olympians, the Hannibal series and the Goosebumps horrorland series.

Tearin’ Up My Heart – N’Sync
A book that broke your heart to finish
I absolutely sobbed when I finished Midnight Sun, I’m not sure if it was the emotion of re-reading the entire series in preparation or what but I broke my heart when I finished it 😩

Crush – Jennifer Paige
Who was your first bookish crush
Thinking back probably Draco Malfoy, or Edward Cullen. It’s a toss up between the two who I crushed on first.

Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana
A book that you read as a teen that you still love today
Animal Farm by George Orwell. The older I get the more my opinion on this book changes. We had to read it for our English lit class and then had a GCSE exam based upon it, so at the time I absolutely detested it. But, now I’m older I’m starting to appreciate it more and am thinking of doing a re-read.

Let me know if you’ve read any of the books I’ve spoken about and what you thought of them!

And if you do take part in this tag be sure to let me know so I can check out your post.

Until next time, Em xxx

📚The ULTIMATE Recommendations book tag!📚

Hello friends, I’m here again with another book tag, I’m trying to do one per month to bring a lil bit of variety to my blog, so I hope you enjoy reading my take on the ultimate recommendations book tag.

If you would like to take part in this tag then please consider yourself tagged!

Recommend a book from your favourite genre.

Okay so my fave genre is definitely horror/thriller, so I would have to recommend The Shining, or Salem’s Lot, or Pet Sematary, in their own right they are all excellent books and I can’t recommend them enough. I speak highly of most King books but these are just *chefs kiss*

Recommend a short book.

One that I’ve read recently and really loved was Psychosis by Matt Dymerski. It’s a collection of short horror stories and they all really packed a punch in different ways. It was different to anything I’d read before…

Recommend a book to screen adaptation.

Gone Girl. I actually watched the film of this before I read the book, but they both still were absolutely brilliant.

Recommend a book out of your comfort zone.

This was a really hard one as I only usually read books within my comfort zone, but I’ve decided on The Scam List by Kurt Dinan. It was so far out of my usual reads but I absolutely loved it! You can read my review here.

Recommend a book series.

If you haven’t already you should read the Hannibal series, it’s honestly such a brilliant read and one of my favourite ever series.

Recommend a standalone.

Based on my recent reads I would definitely recommend The Pastel Effect by Arly Carmack. I will shout about this book from the rooftops I think it’s my favourite read of the year.

Recommend a book you don’t talk enough about.

Definitely The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas. I wish more people that I know or interact with had read this book because I would just love to talk about it with someone! It was such a thought provoking read and I need to discuss it with someone.

Recommend your staple book.

I don’t really have a staple book, if I like something then I’ll recommend it!

Recommend books that got you into reading.

This would be the Goosebumps series, I used to consume these at a crazy rate when I was younger and they definitely encouraged my love of reading when I was younger. I also have to say thanks to Roald Dahl because his books were also a huge influence on me as a child.

Until next time, Em xxx
