I really loved this book, it was a free kindle one a while back but if I was to order it again I would definitely pay for it! It had everything I could have wanted from this style of book…
The setting of this book was perfectly done, it was Victorian England and very Jack the Ripper style vibes. It added that slightly darker flair to the book, that reminded us of what was at stake and created this excellent underlying tension that remained throughout the entire story. You could feel the time period the book was set in seeping through the pages, almost as if you were transported to Victorian England.
That tension and intrigue and atmosphere were kept up incredibly well throughout the story. Not once did the author let the feeling of unease and wariness slip away, in fact it was used to their advantage to create a book so tantalising that you feel addicted to reading it.
Part of that addiction came from the characters, all of which were cleverly crafted to work together in a way that made me feel comfortable and part of the fold, there was a real sense of camaraderie. Darcie was a wonderful character and I absolutely loved her, she had this way about her that made me want to be her friend. Damien was an enigma and it took me a loooooong way through the story to make my mind up about him – the cloak and dagger around him really helped with that!
And then the romantic element of this book just added that extra layer. The desire and lust helped to build that tense atmosphere and the addiction that we felt to the story.
Note to add – the possessive nature of Damien was just 😍😍😍😍
The entire book from start to end was a thoroughly enjoyable read, everything within the story worked together to create an excellent read and I will definitely be partaking in a reread!
