Halloween Song Book Tag!

Hey guys! As it’s October, which is basically Halloween month I’m sharing a Halloween book tag today!

I found it on the blog Adventures with a Side of Espresso, but it was created by booktuber A Beautiful Chaos of Books. She also created a playlist for the tag on Spotify based on the songs included in the tag.

Let us begin…

1 – THRILLER: A BOOK THAT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PAGE TURNER

The Woman In The Water by Kelly Heard. I absolutely loved this book, I couldn’t put it down and it had this eerie vibe that would be perfect for a Halloween read!

2 – SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME: A BOOK THAT GAVE YOU THE SERIOUS CREEPS

The Shining by Stephen King. I have read this book several times and every time it creeps me the fuck out. Honestly.

3 – VAMPIRE: A BOOK YOU HATED SO MUCH IT WAS SOUL SUCKING, I.E INCREDIBLY TEDIOUS TO GET THROUGH

A recent one I read was The Devil’s Staircase by Helen Fitzgerald, it was a real slog to read and I wish I had stuck with my earlier idea to DNFR it. Also, a special mention for a book called Unnatural which I did DNF, at around 22% but honestly, it felt like 202% through, it was a real drag.

4 – THIS IS HALLOWEEN: YOUR FAVOURITE TREAT/SNACK TO EAT WHILE READING

I try not to eat while I’m reading because I don’t want to get anything on my books or my kindle. but I do love a good biscuit or cookie while I’m reading, when I fancy a treat!

5 – TIME WARP: “LET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN.” WHAT BOOK OR BOOKS DO YOU LIKE TO RETURN TO AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?

Anything by Stephen King, I will re-read his books over and over again during Halloween. And any of the Goosebumps books, they’re perfect for reminding me of Halloween’s gone by!

6 – HUNGRY LIKE THE WOLF: A BOOK YOU LOVED SO MUCH, YOU DEVOURED IT

I absolutely powered my way through Unethical by Marla L Anderson, honestly, it was SO GOOD that I couldn’t put it down. I loved it sooooo much.

7 – THE ADDAMS FAMILY: A BOOK FEATURING A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY

Do I need to look any further than the PJO series?!

8 – SCARY MONSTERS (AND SUPER CREEPS): A BOOK GENRE THAT YOU ARE SCARED OR INTIMIDATED TO PICK UP

I am absolutely terrified by fantasy books, I mean there are so many out there? And they’re all really long? And like 10 book series? With worlds entirely crafted by words? And they have maps in the books? There is just a lot to take in and they actually make me feel kind of anxious.

9 – TWILIGHT ZONE: A BOOK WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE PREMISE

Abra-Cadaver by Matt Drabble. I have never read anything like it before, and I don’t think I ever will again, it was an incredibly clever premise.

Let me know what you think of my answers and any that you would pick for the different song titles!

Until next time, Em xxx

The Halloween Tag!

The rules… 1) thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post. 2) Put the rules at the beginning or after the introduction. 3) Answer the 13 questions. 4) Tag 13 people to take part in the tag. 5) Delete Q13 and add your own question.

Thank you so much for the tag Petals, Paws and Pages for tagging me in this tag! I love anything to do with Halloween so I am beyond excited to take part in this…

Q1 – What is your favourite thing about October? October is actually my birthday month so that’s what I love the most! Very closely followed by Halloween.

Q2 – Are you a big celebrator of Halloween? To an extent yes, I absolutely love Halloween, however, I’m quite introverted to my plans usually include carving pumpkins, watching horror films and decorating my room. But going out to parties and trick or treating NO THANK U.

Q3 – What’s your favourite horror movie? Ah please don’t put me on the spot like this, I actually CANNOT decide. It’s a toss up between a few…

Q4 – Would you rather a cosy night in watching horror or a big night in a costume? A cosy night in watching horror anyday.

Q5 – Which has been your favourite costume to date? I once dressed up as an undead prom queen, which meant I got to wear my prom dress again which I LOVED.

Q6 – Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch? Pin the hat on the witch, DUH!

Q7 – How you celebrate Halloween? Usually by carving some pumpkins, getting some popcorn and chocolate and watching horror films.

Q8 – What’s your least favourite horror? I really hate The Blair Witch Project. It doesn’t scare me, I just really detest it!

Q9 – Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory? I do not 😦 I do remember when I went for a run last Halloween though and got chased by a kid dressed as a werewolf that was pretty scary lmao.

Q10 – What’s your favourite thing about Halloween? That no one judges me for my crazy love of horror films.

Q11 – Scary or silly costume? Silly.

Q12 – What’s your favourite Halloween candy? I don’t really get anything specific for Halloween but if the packaging has like Halloween themes on then I will definitely pick that one over others!

Q13 – How are you celebrating Halloween this year? I will be carving a pumpkin with my boyfriend, eating popcorn and I think watching my two new DVDs, The Ring and The Grudge.

There you have my answers to the Halloween tag. I loved doing this one, as Halloween is literally my second favourite time of the year and whilst it looks different for a lot of people, Halloween 2020 is perfectly normal for me because I usually stay inside and don’t trick or treat or go to parties!

Until next time, Em xxx

Happy Halloween🎃👻💀

WOOP WOOP it’s Halloween!🎃👻💀 AKA one of my favourite days of the year, and to celebrate I want to share my TEN FAVOURITE HORROR MOVIES with you guys! WOOP.

I literally am obsessed with horror films, my poor poor bf literally has to suffer while I sit and watch them all year round, and in the spirit of Halloween I decided to do something a lil different. HERE WE GOOOO :)))))

P.S. Spoiler alert bcos even though some of these films are quite old, you may not have seen them already!

  1. Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984, directed by Wes Craven. OKAY so I’ve only seen this film series through once because I actually found it entirely too terrifying.
  2. Scream, 1996, directed by Wes Craven. This is probably the first slasher film I ever watched and the line “what’s your favourite scary movie” is an ICONIC line that I never get tired of hearing. Image result for what's your favourite scary movie gif
  3. Saw, 2004, directed by James Wan. This is my fave Saw franchise film as well, when Jigsaw rose from the floor at the end and shouted game over when he shut the door, a twist that no matter how many times I watch it still shocks me.
  4. Psycho, 1960, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. I only watched this film this year but it has become a firm favourite of mine, the suspense WOWZERS.
  5. Hostel, 2005, directed by Eli Roth. I really enjoyed this film despite it’s gory nature, it was like my worst nightmare was put into a film.
  6. Final Destination, 2000, directed by James Wong. Some people think these films are trash (these people are wrong… I’m joking!) for me Final Destination is a cult classic and while the following films might not have been so great the first one is GREAT.
  7. The Shining, 1980, directed by Stanley Kubrick. This is probably in my top 3 horror films, I love Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of Jack Torrance chills me to the bone every time I watch it.
  8. The Conjuring, 2013, directed by James Wan. I will watch this film over and over, when Carolyn is in the cellar trying to stab one of her own children it really scared me!
  9. Veronica, 2017, Paco Plaza. While not the scariest film on Netflix as some described it certainly did send a shiver down my spine, and I’ve since watched it another two times.
  10. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974, directed by Tobe Hooper. Another cult classic makes my list (shock) and when Leatherface chases Sally at the end, it put me off chainsaws for LIFE.

And there you have my top ten favourite horror films! There are SO many more that I absolutely love but that would be an incredibly long list and I want to go watch some of these to celebrate…

Happy Halloween everyone, be safe and have fun whatever you’re doing today/tonight!

Top Ten Tuesday – Halloween Freebie (My Top 5 Creepy Books)📚

What Em's Reading (3)

WOOP WOOP it’s nearly Halloween👻👻👻 I love Halloween it’s literally one of my fave time of year (after Christmas) and I cannot wait to carve pumpkins with my boyfriend and decorate the house with decs!

Back to the actual reason for this blog which is today’s TTT, and it’s a freebie! I’ve decided to do my Top Five Creepy Reads…

  1. Banquet for the Damned by Adam Nevill. I recently reviewed this book and the night terrors aspect really put the shivers up my spine, and I stopped sleeping for a good few days afterwards.
  2. 1408 by Stephen King. I literally rave about this book in most of my posts but it’s so good, it’s one of the few books that actually scared me.
  3. Pet Semetary by Stephen King. If you haven’t read this then what are u doing with your life?! Honestly, a lot of King’s books I find creepy/scary but this one really pushed me over the edge…
  4. The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti” I mean has there been a creepier line?!!!
  5. Thinner by Stephen King. I find gypsies really really frightening, which I know is probably a generalisation but this book just did not aid my fear of them.

What did you guys do for your freebie this week?! More importantly, is everyone excited for Halloween – I know I am. Happy Halloween everyone :)))
