Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! I’m here with the first book I’ve read in November! (I have had other reviews go out but these were ones I had stored in my draft folder for weeks lmao).
So yes here is my first proper review/book reading of November and it is Madhouse by Miguel Estrada.
My overall rating of this book is 1 out of 5 stars.
Sigh, where do I begin? This is only a short story, which is fine, I knew that before I started reading but from the start where we are launched straight into finding out Lucas’s parents are getting divorced without any kind of backstory or introduction, it was just too much too soon.
From here onwards the story itself was just rushed, Lucas leaving home, Lucas getting picked up by a stranger, Lucas being handcuffed to the bed and threatened with a butchers knife, all within a few pages. I know it’s a short story but there was too much in that time period.
I also struggled to really warm to Lucas, he annoyed me. I know he’s scared of the dark but your survival instinct will take over and you would NOT (no matter what anyone says) run back into the same house where there’s a man running around with a shotgun… Nope.
There was too much description of the house as well, so it just got confusing with the fast pace of the story and trying to keep up with where Lucas was within the building, which took away from the suspense, as we were left with periods of descriptive text, of the basement for example.
AND to top off what I found a very boring book, I guessed the ending about halfway through 😦
So, have you read Madhouse? Let me know what you thought! Em xx
