Falling for the Cowboy by Kennedy Fox.
Synopsis… “Never trust a man who wears nothing more than a cowboy hat and ripped jeans who asks if you’d like to save a horse and ride a… well, you get the picture. My review…
My initial thoughts on this book were completely different to how I ended up feeling after I completed it. We start off meeting Presley, our main female character, who SHOCK is a freelance photographer (every woman in a romance novel is freelance something so that she can move around the world to be with her new love interest whilst he stays in the same place he’s been for the last 30 years…)
In case you hadn’t gathered, my back was up by this point.
Then we met Colton, who was such a cliche cowboy, I considered DNFR it at this point because I just couldn’t handle it.
However, I stuck with it and I’m glad I did. Once the author got into the swing of the writing I was swept up with this book and taken in by everything.
The Bishop Ranch, where the story is situated, sounded so appealing, the family running it were funny and I chuckled out loud more than once with their banter. The ranch and family were regulars throughout the book and really added another layer to the story.
Our chapters swapped between Presley and Colton, giving us a view on things from both of their perspectives, which helped to progress the story without things feeling rushed or one sided. Their relationship felt natural and built up slowly through the book, allowing them to form an emotional connection first. I will say when they did get down to it, it was HOT and well worth the wait.
I do think there wasn’t enough background on either character, where they came from, family etc and for me that let down the book a little bit. It certainly would have added to the story.
My favourite part of this book was the ending, it had such a happy ending and I’m so glad! I particularly enjoyed how the author didn’t just stop at “and they lived happily ever after” we were given another couple of chapters into their life afterwards! And I’m a sucker for a happy ending.
On the whole, I did really enjoy this book, it was super sweet! There were things that I felt would have enhanced the story but as a standalone novel it really hit the spot!
