There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins – read the synopsis here.
Overall rating – 5 out of 5 stars.
I’ve seen A LOT of mixed opinions on GR about this book so I feel as though my 5 star rating is a little bit different, but I honestly loved this book so much!
Everything from our characters, to the plot, to the writing was just impeccable, I enjoyed reading There’s Someone Inside Your House so much that I wished I could read it again for the first time…
Starting with our characters, I couldn’t fault them. I think, for me at least, because it was set in high school and I remembered what it was like to be a bit of a social outcast it really connected with me, I felt a sense of belonging with the characters of this book. I also want to commend the author for writing them in a such a way that they behaved exactly like teenagers would – it made me feel young again!
I want to preface this next lil bit by saying I am a HUGE horror fan and I think slashers have to be my favourite genre (closely followed by psychological thrillers) so for me I was always going to love the plot of this book.
The plot was possibly the best part for me. I really enjoyed how it wasn’t just slasher based, sure there was a lot of death and description, but the element of messing with the characters beforehand just added that extra layer to the story and brought something extra.
And the ending just wrapped everything up perfectly, I feel like we got proper closure on the story and characters.
The atmosphere and intensity of this book only helped to further build the feeling of fear and foreboding that we felt, which is testament to the authors ability to write a good story!
I could not put this book down, it was addictive to read, everything worked together to create There’s Someone Inside Your House in the best way possible.
Also, side note I watched the film of this on Netflix and WTF did I put myself through?! It was so far away from the book that it almost seemed as if they’d been told “sure you can copy my HW but make it a bit different” I was so disappointed in the film 😦
Happy reading bookworms! Until next time, Em xxx
